The Story of the 97 SS #254
Well it kind of started with a phone call from my Nephew Ricky, and he explained to me that this guy needs some help with a car and that i might be interested in it. So i just headed on over to check the car out. So i headed over to check it out and it was a red SS. I'm honestly not too fond of red but the car didn't look too bad. It just needed a little TLC so to speak as you can see from the pics. The front bumper cover needed to be reworked and the hood and spoiler needed to be repainted from the bubbles coming out (clear coat) that was done by SLP. The interior has gray leather and is not too bad of shape but you can see the miles on it with the 30th anniv. logo on it. Interior panels need to be changed out and the carpet changed but that might just make me change it all to black anyway.... I called SLP and confirmed that this is Build #254. This is the first year of the dash change and the taillight change. This is the last year for the LT1 and bodystyle. GM changed the front end and started using the LS1 engine in 1998. The car was running a little rough and handling rough to say the least. I had alot of codes- missfires and O2 sensors and a few other things. So i set out to try to fix all of the problems that the car had. I replaced alot of stuff and even finally saw the opti was crapping out on me. Man that will piss you off trying to figure it all out! I went on ahead and bought the new MSD opti and that fixed alot of the driveability problems i was having. I found one problem i was having and finally figured out what was causing the knock sensor to go crazy- whoever had installed the engine had crushed it against the body somehow. Well i replaced the sensor and fixed the connection adn it almost cleared everything up. But i was still getting a slight knock problem......The engine had just been rebuilt and the tranny was also which makes this car a good deal but i think something in the overhaul was done wrong... i'm not too sure.....Well anyway to bring things up to speed, i had have the car looked at by a bodyguy to fix the paint and slight dings on the car since i had found the clear coming up on the hood and spolier and had found a few dings on the car. The G11 is coming up in May and i can't wait to get it all squared away along with the 2000 Ramair that is the other fbody. It has a few beauty issues with it and after the SS was completed i was going to send it in next and have the paint touched up and the rearend taken care of.......... But then on one fine saturday things changed for the worse or better....i'm not too sure yet....
The impact heard thru the neighborhood
Well on April 7th 2007 i was getting ready for Easter and i figured that i would head out and change the oil on all of the vehicles. So i left my house heading to the local car parts store to get the synthetic oil and lucas treatment when i came out to a 4 way intersection. It was a 2 way stop going east to west and i was travelling north. I noticed a woman stopped at the stop sign and i saw a safari van in my lane coming the other way and he was clipping along like he was in a hurry so i stopped and turned on my left turn signal because i figured i need to wait for the van to go by and let the woman go and then i could turn left and go on my merry way, or so i thought.....The woman started to drift out and got in the middle of the intersection, not even looking over her left shoulder and i knew what was coming so i tried to get the car into reverse but it was too late- the van swerved and totally missed her and smacked me head-on. I totally believe in seat belts and this just reinforced this belief....i went into the airbag and violently got slammed back into my seat. At first i thought &^%!$@$$#$*#$~~~!!!#!@^#^@# what the !@%%@%!@#%(%!! just happened!!!! I opened my door to see the damage that was done and i couldn't catch my breath and my chest tightened up and got real sore. My wrist swoll up on me and i collapsed on the street. The ambulance finally came and took me to the hospital and checked me out and they didn't find any broken bones thank goodness! Since i didn't get knocked out they released me to go home. I got some medication and it knocked me out for a little while. My wrist hurt to the point that i couldn't make a fist or grab anything. I couldn't really drive either. Man what a mess..... I had never felt so helpless and worthless before in my life. I hope noone ever has to go thru this. This is no fun i assure you.I've been off work in pain and i'm getting now where i can type with one hand....like i said this sucks! I couldn't even see my kids or hold a game controller! All i could do is watch tv take medicine and let the cats look at me and say "whoah! you look like crap! Now feed us!" Needless to say we don't have any more cats...they all have seem to have disappeared! J/K....or am i? Anyway i'm STILL waiting to see if the person who hit me has any insurance. Insurance companies are like vampires man i tell you... if they have to give you money to fix the car....well i won't go any further but i will update this as this hopefully gets resolved soon.....maybye when i retire by the way everything is starting to look.....
